It’s been bit since I’ve posted an update. There are some exciting things brewing that I wanted to share.
In 2006, I founded the WorkBook Project. WBP consists of a number of exciting projects one of which is DIY DAYS. In 2008 DIY DAYS traveled to LA, San Francisco, Boston, and NYC. This year we kicked off things in Philadelphia with our largest event to date. On August 1st over 300 people gathered for 40 speakers and 22 sessions on how those working in film, gaming, music, software and design can fund, create, distribute and sustain from their creative efforts. For first time we had folks flying in from all over the US and even some from Europe. The event is FREE and all the sessions are shot and then released as open media to be embed and spread.
Here’s this year’s keynote author and filmmaker Douglas Rushkoff

RECENT PRESS COVERAGE – MovieMaker Magazine included me in their “Future of Moviemaking” issue. The feature article is entitled “2009 Indie Innovators: 10 people making a difference today for the moviemakers of tomorrow” Others on the list include Robert Greenwald, Jeff Gomez, Brett Gaylor, Tiffany Shlain, and Arin Crumley.
“WHY HE MADE THE LIST: His first feature, 1998′s The Last Broadcast, enjoyed the first all-digital release of a motion picture to theaters nationwide, a self-distribution effort that resulted in a $4 million worldwide gross. He founded WorkBookProject.com an open-source compendium of podcasts, how-to articles and a video web series geared toward indies looking to fund, create, distribute and sustain from their work. He co-founded From Here to Awesome with co-innovator Arin Crumley. Weiler was lauded by several of his peers as their first choice for this list.”
RADAR SIGNS SECOND SEASON WITH BABELGUM
I’m excited to share that we’ve started work on a second season to a series that I co-created called RADAR. The series is produced by WBP Labs a division of the WorkBook Project.
NEW CULTURE HACKER column in the Summer Issue of Filmmaker Magazine.
In this issue’s column I cover the topic of Story Architecture. In many ways it feels as if storytelling is evolving. The article is an extension of a number of talks and lectures I’ve been giving on the subject recently.
UPCOMING ARTICLE IN SCREEN INTERNATIONAL
I’ve been asked to write an article on the evolution of storytelling for Screen International later this month.
SPEAKING
Upcoming speaking engagements include.
Sept. 20th FILMMAKER CONFERENCE
Oct. 14th to 16th POWER TO THE PIXEL
Nov. 16th USC
And I save the most exciting update for last:
Two new projects that I’ve been developing are moving forward in exciting ways. One is HiM which won the Cinemart Arte prize for most promising project this past winter. We’re just about finished a fourth draft on the script and have recently finished a round of story architecture on the project. The second project is a TV series that I’ve co-created. They are much more then just a film and TV series. We’ve spent a great deal of time constructing a storyworld around each of the projects. Both are full transmedia ventures that include a mixture of film, gaming, tech and experience design. But what has been the most amazing aspect of both projects is the team that’s been assembled around them. More details as soon as I can share them.
